Glossary

This glossary explains the most commonly-used words. It is sorted by importance, not alphabetically.

Show: An Onlyview project is called a Show. It corresponds to the .olv file.

Producer and Display: Producer is the software on which the show is encoded, and which controls the remote computers. These remote computers, which are in charge of rendering the show on the projectors, are called the Displays.

Stage: The 2D stage is a virtual zone on which most of Onlyview’s content is put. It is visible in the 2D preview:

In this example:

Online / Ctrl-O: Most Producer operations are directly visible on all the Displays. On some occasions, however, the Displays must be put Online, using the Ctrl-O shortcut:

Softedge: When combining videoprojectors to create a large image, it’s important to have some overlap, in order to hide the cut. On the overlap, there will be 2x more light, and this needs to be compensated for by creating a smooth transition, called “softedge”.

Timeline: The timeline is where the different medias are arranged in time

In this example, the movie “Section 1” will play, and then “Section 2” will play.

There can be multiple timelines in a Show. Each timeline has multiple layers. Layer 1 is at the bottom; anything that is on Layer 2 will appear above.

Board: Boards are a simplified version of Timelines. It is similar to the concept of “cue list” used in other software packages.

Cue: A single media can be played at different times and different positions on the stage. This is represented by Cues, which are adjusted on the Timelines (to set when it’s going to play) and on the 2D Preview (to set where it’s going to play).

In this example, the media “Section 1.mov” is played simultaneously two times, but at different positions.
